MULTIVERSE MAP

Not drawn. Coded.

Every film a station. Every storyline a line. 1998–2027.

Low-resolution watermarked preview. The 300 dpi print master is 14,043 × 9,933 px (A0) / 9,933 × 7,016 px (A1) and is never published.

Thirty years of superhero cinema, mapped like a city's underground.

77 films. Every continuity on its own line. Every crossover an interchange. Every station sits on the exact month its film reached cinemas.

MULTIVERSE MAP was not drawn by hand, and not generated by AI. It was written: built in code the way a website is built, then rendered for print. Each line, curve, station and letter is placed by a program, calculated to a fraction of a millimetre, and checked by automated tests before a single print is made. Nothing is eyeballed and nothing is approximated. Every connection on the map comes from a sourced fact in the data underneath.

The result is about 139 million pixels at 300 dpi, sharp from a metre away and from ten centimetres. It is giclée-printed in archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 100% cotton museum paper, and framed by hand in Auckland.

How it's made

Four steps. No eyeballing.

  1. The data.

Every film, release date and on-screen crossover is researched and recorded with a source. One continuity, one line.

  2. The code.

A program turns that data into geometry: the timeline, the routes, the curves, the interchanges and the type.

  3. The checks.

Automated tests prove that no labels collide, every station is in its release year, every line weight is printable, and every crossover is sourced. If one fails, nothing prints.

  4. The print.

Giclée-printed from a 300 dpi master on Hahnemühle Photo Rag: museum-grade, 100% cotton, acid-free paper made in Germany, the same stock galleries use for fine-art editions. Archival pigment inks. Printed in Auckland by Print Art.
